We pay for fleeting experiences, but not for the only one that can give us daily well-being.
We’ve all done it at some point:
We dream of an incredible trip, we organize it with excitement, we choose the best hotel, maybe an “all-inclusive,” unique excursions, the most special dinner of the trip… and, even if the cost goes up, we say to ourselves:
“It’s going to be an experience we’ll never forget. That’s what we work for, isn’t it?”
It’s curious how we’re willing to invest all our savings to experience 15 unforgettable days, but when it comes to renovating our home, the place where we’re going to live every day of our lives, we suddenly want to invest as little as possible, rush through the process, and avoid “extra costs.”
And here’s the contradiction:
renovating your home is probably the most transformative and decisive experience of your adult life.
Much more so than a trip, a getaway, or any “gift” we give ourselves, however pleasant it may be.
Renovating isn’t just about changing a space: it’s about deciding how you want to live for the next few years.
A thousand things happen during a renovation project: questions we’ve never asked ourselves before, adjustments, options, changes, and decisions we hadn’t anticipated. It’s a journey that, if you do it alone, will usually leave you exhausted and without having enjoyed anything along the way.
But when you have an experienced team on your side that analyzes your desires and needs, selects materials and labor based on your requirements and preferences, anticipates and solves problems for you while keeping you informed and explaining the pros and cons of each option and each new possible decision, then everything changes.
And here’s the key: your home is the real setting for your life. It’s where you’ll share your best moments, where you’ll cook, take care of yourself, rest, welcome your friends, and watch your children grow up. Doesn’t this place deserve your full attention and care in designing and creating it wisely, with the peace of mind of knowing that you have the help of expert hands?
Designing your future home should be one of the most exciting and positive moments of your life, as it is undoubtedly a great opportunity to plan how you want to live, what you want to happen in your daily life and what you don’t, how you want to relate to others and how you want to be with yourself.
We don’t mind spending a lot of money on weekend getaways, vacation trips, safaris, or dinners prepared by Michelin-starred chefs. Because we understand that it’s worth it. But when it comes to renovating our home, the place we will live in every day for years to come, we don’t feel the same way: we see it as an uncomfortable and lengthy process that we have to go through if we want to have the home of our dreams. Suddenly we want to rush through it, save money on the process, and spend as little as possible on this transition.
However, renovating your home is an experience that will determine your long-term well-being. So, does it make sense to treat it as if it were a chore?
A team of interior designers doesn’t just design: they open doors you never knew existed
At the studio, we always say that our job isn’t about choosing pretty materials. It’s about showing you possibilities that you would never have imagined yourself.
An experienced interior designer sees what you don’t see: flows, light, paths, angles, real uses, ergonomics, order, structure, storage, maintenance…
While you look at the floor plan and think about “where the sofa will go,” we imagine how you will live in this space over the next few years: how the light will enter, how the view outside will affect you, how you will move around, where you will store what, what might bother you, what might calm you, what would make every little action easier, from hanging the laundry to making toast in the morning to spending time with your family on a typical Sunday afternoon.
That’s interior design: turning a space into something that works for you when you live in it, not just when you look at it.
That’s interior design: turning a space into something that works for you when you live in it, not just when you look at it.
- Rethinking the layout until you find one that suits you perfectly.
- Selecting materials that make your life easier, serve you well, and that you love to look at.
- Preparing, reviewing, and controlling the budget, as well as offering alternatives when necessary.
- Explaining each phase to you, how it progresses, when and how you should intervene, accompanying you, resolving your doubts, and addressing any changes that will surely occur to you when you begin the process.
- Plan the timing of the renovation work and decoration installation, taking into account manufacturing deadlines, the availability of each operator, drying times, and the logical order so that everything progresses without unnecessary delays.
- Manage suppliers, manufacturers, transport, changes, complaints, and returns so that you don’t have to worry about these issues.
- Regularly monitor and supervise the quality and progress of the work so that the result is delivered as it should be, and when it should be.
In short: both the design and execution of the transformation involve analyzing, thinking about, and implementing solutions with you that you would not otherwise be able to imagine. Sergio and Rocío came to our studio eager to make some changes to their home: renovate the kitchen and bathrooms, change the doors and flooring, and redecorate the house in general. So far, so good.
We visited their apartment, asked them lots of questions, and analyzed their needs (those mentioned in the previous paragraph), but new possibilities arose: having a bedroom, a suite with a dressing room, two separate teleworking areas, and increasing storage space by strategically locating it.
Their budget would be €20,000 more than expected, but their quality of life over the next twenty years would far exceed what they had imagined, simply because they didn’t know they could have it, or perhaps because they assumed they couldn’t have it.
Your home is your biggest project
A well-planned, guided, and supported renovation is far from being a headache. It is a life project, a kind of exciting journey that should fill you with enthusiasm, towards a destination that will contribute to your well-being, providing you with positive feelings every day for many years to come.
At Sezam Studio, we don’t do standardized renovations: we create homes that are thought out and custom-designed to be lived in. And that, just like a great journey… is an experience you will remember for a lifetime, it will be part of your most important experiences and, surely, it will also be one of the most intense, exciting, and positive.
