Rehabilitation with integral reform in Poblenou
Residential project for a decreasing family
Need
Olga and Paqui wanted to transform their house into a home where they could fully enjoy themselves, with spaces designed to suit them and adapted to their needs. From the beginning it was clear to them: the kitchen should be open to the living room to gain amplitude and luminosity, and all the furniture should be elegant, functional and durable.
They also decided to distribute the apartment with two individual bedrooms, each with its own style, and a third multipurpose room: a space designed for their daughter, who had recently become independent, but which could also function as a guest room or a quiet reading area.
Project challenges
During the renovation, one of the first challenges was the poor condition of some of the beams, which made it necessary to reinforce the structure and replan part of the work without affecting the planned design. The elongated layout of the apartment, with a narrow floor plan, required intelligent solutions to gain storage and maintain spaciousness, making the most of the available height.
Another challenge was to design rooms with their own identities, especially a third multifunctional room, without breaking the overall harmony.
Finally, integrating kitchen and living room without losing elegance or functionality required a subtle balance in materials, lighting and furniture, to achieve a fluid and welcoming whole.
Solution
To solve the structural problems, reinforcements were designed to respect the original design, integrating naturally into the overall aesthetics. The distribution was rethought with a clear strategy: to make the most of the height. Tailor-made vertical storage solutions were designed to free up usable space and reinforce the feeling of order and spaciousness.
The elongated shape of the floor led us to look for creative answers: integrated storage areas, use of openings and a palette of warm materials, such as wood, in light tones, which add serenity and luminosity. The lighting, planned in layers, and a precise selection of furniture complete a balanced and personal home.
Each room maintains its own identity, but within a common language of materials and color. In the multifunctional room, versatile pieces allow the space to be adapted according to its use: rest, reading or guests. Thus, flexibility is achieved without losing visual coherence.
In the day area, the kitchen and living room are subtly integrated. The use of neutral materials, adjustable lighting and custom-made furniture ensures visual continuity and a comfortable, fluid atmosphere at all times, acting as a bridge between the two spaces.
