How we work on interior design projects
Every space tells a story. That’s why, when we tackle our interior design projects, the first thing we do is listen to you: understand how you live, what matters to you, and what you expect from your home or business premises in Barcelona. From there, we build a clear, orderly, and smooth process, where every decision has a reason behind it.
We begin with an analysis phase, in which we study the starting point and define the direction to take with you. Then we tackle the project concept: we shape it, balancing aesthetics, functionality, and comfort. It’s not just about making a space beautiful, but about making your life easier, friendlier, and much more enjoyable.
The next step is to transform that concept into a detailed technical design: materials, layout, lighting, construction details, planning, and preparation of the work. Everything is designed so that the construction of the project is carried out with diligence and rigor, while we accompany you throughout the process to resolve any questions and ensure that the project is carried out correctly, as planned.
The Sezam Studio team coordinates and supervises each phase of execution, managing timelines, contractors, and finishes verifying that the result we envision is transformed into a real, coherent, durable space that is ready to be enjoyed.
What kind of interior design projects do we carry out in Barcelona?
Barcelona is a diverse city, with very different rhythms, neighborhoods, and ways of life. This variety is reflected in the interior design projects we carry out: from homes that seek calm and functionality to commercial premises that need to convey a clear and coherent identity at first glance. Our work covers residential, retail, and contract projects, always adapted to the context and reality of each space and each type of client.
In housing, we focus on maximizing the living experience: layout, light, materials that enhance positive aspects, and solutions that transform the way the designed space is lived in. In retail, the goal is to create environments that attract and connect with people, conveying the brand’s message to its audience. And in workspaces or contract spaces, we prioritize efficiency, well-being, ergonomics, and a sense of order that enhances everyday life.
Each project is born with a clear intention: that the space responds to your needs and the environment (urban or otherwise) that surrounds it. Barcelona inspires us in every detail, but it is you who defines the style and direction. Our role is to translate that direction into a functional, balanced, honest design with maximum comfort.
Phases of an interior design project
An interior design project works best when the process is clear and optimally structured. At Sezam Studio, we work with our own approach called methodical interior design, which allows us to move forward step by step, smoothly and having anticipated possible setbacks, so that you always have a clear vision of what is being done and why.
01. Listening and briefing
We start by understanding how you live or use the space, what you need, what you want to have, and what feelings you are looking for. It is a phase of introspection, in which we list and organize your ideas and requirements.
02. Concept and aesthetic direction
With this information, we define a solid concept that guides the project: layout, lighting, materials, and the style we want to create. Everything stems from a coherent intention, but it must also be aspirational.
03. Technical design and materials
We turn the concept into a complete project: plans, construction details, lighting, and material selection. This is where our methodology makes the difference: each step is planned and designed so that nothing is left to chance and the right decisions are made.
04. Budget and planning
In this step, we review each item with you and explain the timelines with complete clarity. You have the peace of mind of knowing what will happen at each stage and what you need to keep the process moving forward as planned.
05. Execution and monitoring of the work
We coordinate contractors, control quality, and supervise progress so that the final result is faithful to the project we have defined together.
The method does not seek to complicate anything; it seeks to ensure that the process follows a well-founded guideline, so that nothing is left out, we move forward at a good pace, and we make the right decisions.
Our philosophy on interior design and decoration projects
At Sezam, we see interior design and decoration projects as an opportunity to create the space you want, to accompany you, enhance your daily life, and bring you well-being. Each project is born from an honest perspective: observing how you want to live, what matters to you, and how you inhabit the space in your daily life. From there, we build solutions that combine beauty, harmony, and functionality that you will truly notice when you begin to inhabit the space.
We believe in design that does not impose, but rather dialogues with you and the place. That is why we pay attention to light, proportion, materials, and the feeling that each space leaves behind. We do not understand interior design as a static image, but rather as an experience that is lived over time.
Our approach is simple: less artifice, more essence; less noise, more intention. Every decision is made with the aim of achieving a final result that is coherent, balanced, and, above all, yours.
Frequently asked questions about your interior design projects at Sezam Studio
What exactly does an interior design project include?
An interior design project is much more than just an aesthetic proposal. It includes analyzing the space, defining a layout that truly works, selecting materials and finishes, studying lighting, creating the necessary technical plans, and developing a comprehensive vision that ensures consistency in every decision.
We also provide support throughout the process, so that you understand each step and can make the best decisions based on your criteria. Our goal is to give you a solid and clear foundation before starting the work, avoiding improvisation and ensuring a lasting result that positively influences your well-being.
What is the difference between an interior design project and a comprehensive renovation?
An interior design project defines the how: the layout, the atmosphere, the materials, and all the decisions that shape the space. Comprehensive renovation is when that project is brought to life through construction work.
You can have an interior design project without renovating the entire home, or you can carry out a comprehensive renovation based on a well-developed technical project. Ideally, both should go hand in hand to ensure that the end result is faithful to the initial idea.
How is the budget for an interior design project calculated?
The calculation of the budget for an interior design project will depend on the surface area of the space, the scope of the work, the materials chosen, and whether or not it includes construction work. At Sezam Studio, we prepare the budget with transparency: each item contains its description, we study alternatives, and we explain the different options so that you can evaluate them with discernment.
The key is to work with a well-defined project; this way, we avoid deviations and maintain control over time, quality, and costs.
How long does an interior design project take?
The timeframes depend on the type of space and the scope of the project. A complete home design usually requires several weeks of development, while a comprehensive renovation can take anywhere from 3 to 6 months, including planning and construction.
We work with a clear, realistic schedule that is adapted to the availability of suppliers and contractors. Our methodical approach helps to make the process as smooth as possible and avoid unnecessary surprises.
Can I order only the design without the execution of the work?
Yes, you can commission just the design project. In these cases, we prepare a complete technical package—plans, layout, lighting, materials—so you can execute it at your own pace or with the professionals of your choice.
However, if you need it, we can also accompany you during the work or take on the complete management of the process. The idea is that you have the freedom to choose the level of support that best suits you.
What is the first step if I want to start a project with Sezam?
We always start with a conversation to understand your needs, the condition of the space, and your goals. We then visit the site, take measurements, and propose an initial approach that allows us to move forward with clarity.
From there, we define the scope of the project, plan timelines, and begin working on the proposal, following a methodical process developed over more than 20 years in the industry to achieve the best results according to your preferences.
Do you only work in Barcelona or also in other locations?
Our studio is located in Barcelona, and most of our projects are carried out in the city of Barcelona and its surrounding areas: nearby municipalities where we can guarantee smooth coordination, effective monitoring of the work, and the same level of support that we always offer.
However, we also work in other locations when the project is suitable, allows it, and we can ensure that we maintain the same level of attention and support that characterizes our way of working.
